Day 14 : School Internship Phase 1

On August 16, 2024, I had a demanding schedule, managing four classes across different grades and subjects. For the 8A class, I implemented an inquiry training model, and for the 9C class, I conducted three lessons focused on triangle centers. Despite the rigorous academic content, I noticed that many students appeared exhausted. This situation presents an opportunity for me to explore and adopt new readiness techniques and inclusive activities, as well as enhance my questioning skills.

When students show signs of fatigue, it is crucial to reconsider how we engage and prepare them for learning. A well-structured approach can make lessons more interactive and refreshing, potentially rejuvenating their interest and focus. To address this, integrating novel methods to prepare students for lessons is vital. One approach is to start with a brief, engaging warm-up activity that transitions them from their previous mental state into the new topic. For instance, incorporating short, dynamic exercises such as quick problem-solving games or thought-provoking puzzles related to the lesson can activate their curiosity and energy. These activities should be designed to be intellectually stimulating yet light enough to uplift their spirits, encouraging a positive mindset for the upcoming class.

In addition to these readiness techniques, including inclusive activities in the lessons can cater to diverse learning styles and needs, ensuring that every student remains engaged and valued. For the inquiry training model used in 8A, an effective method could involve interactive group projects where students collaborate to investigate real-world scenarios related to the topic. This not only makes the learning process more engaging but also allows students to see the relevance of their studies. Similarly, for the 9C class focusing on triangle centers, incorporating hands-on activities such as constructing geometric shapes using physical materials or digital tools can make the abstract concepts more tangible. By providing multiple ways to interact with the content, students can engage with the material in a manner that suits their learning preferences, enhancing their overall comprehension and enthusiasm.

Furthermore, improving questioning techniques is essential for fostering a more dynamic and interactive classroom environment. To enhance questioning skills, it is beneficial to employ a variety of question types. Techniques such as think-pair-share, where students first reflect on a question individually, then discuss their thoughts with a partner before sharing with the class, can facilitate engagement and give students a chance to articulate their ideas more clearly.
