Day 22 : School Internship Phase 2

On December 31, 2024, I had a packed day, teaching four classes across different grade levels. The first class of the day was for 9A, where I introduced the topic of the volume of rectangular prisms and cubes. The students were highly engaged and grasped the concept exceptionally well. I made use of practical examples and visual aids to illustrate the topic, which helped in making the lesson more relatable and effective. The students participated actively, solving problems confidently. Their enthusiasm and quick understanding of the topic made it an excellent session. It was fulfilling to see their progress and interest in the subject.
For 8A and 8C, I taught the topic of the area of a parallelogram. Unfortunately, I noticed that many students had forgotten the basic concepts they had previously learned. This made it challenging to proceed with the lesson as planned. To address this, I had to revisit some fundamental ideas about geometry, including the relationship between base and height in a parallelogram. Although this took extra time, it was necessary to ensure that all students were on the same page. I also incorporated simple examples and activities to help them regain their understanding. By the end of the session, some students showed improvement, but I realized the importance of regular revision to reinforce these concepts.
The final class of the day was with 5A, where I decided to conduct a mini spelling bee tournament. This activity was designed to break the monotony of regular lessons and to develop their vocabulary and spelling skills in an engaging way. The students were divided into small groups and were given words of varying difficulty levels to spell. The competitive yet friendly atmosphere brought out their enthusiasm, and they actively participated in the game. The tournament not only helped enhance their language skills but also boosted their confidence and teamwork. It was heartening to see their excitement and determination to perform well.
Overall, the day was a mix of successes and challenges. While the 9A session was highly rewarding, the 8A and 8C classes highlighted the need for consistent reinforcement of foundational concepts. The 5A spelling bee was a delightful way to end the day, showcasing the importance of creative teaching methods in making learning enjoyable and impactful.

Day 21 : School Internship Phase 2

The school internship phase 2 resumed on December 30, 2024, marking the beginning of another significant journey in my teaching career. It was an eventful day as I had to distribute the corrected answer sheets of the second terminal examination to the students. This task brought mixed feelings of anticipation and responsibility.

Starting with 9A, I noticed a generally below-average performance among the students. The results revealed that many of them struggled to grasp the concepts taught during the term. Common mistakes included incomplete solutions, incorrect applications of mathematical principles, and careless calculation errors. This indicated a lack of clarity and consistent practice among the students. I realized the urgent need to identify their learning gaps and provide remedial measures to help them improve. To motivate the students, I emphasized the importance of perseverance and regular practice, encouraging them to see this as an opportunity to learn and grow rather than as a failure.

In contrast, 8A students exhibited commendable performance in their exams. Most of them demonstrated a clear understanding of the topics and applied their knowledge effectively. Their answer sheets reflected thorough preparation and attention to detail. I praised their hard work and acknowledged their achievements, ensuring they felt encouraged to maintain their dedication. Seeing their progress was truly rewarding, as it affirmed the effectiveness of the teaching strategies and methods I had employed during the term.

The stark difference in performance between the two classes made me reflect on my approach to teaching. While 8A’s success was satisfying, 9A’s results highlighted the need for innovative teaching techniques and individualized support to address their challenges. I plan to introduce more interactive and engaging methods to make learning enjoyable and accessible for them. Additionally, conducting regular quizzes and revision sessions could help reinforce their understanding and boost their confidence.

Overall, the day was a blend of celebration and introspection, driving me to strive for better outcomes in the upcoming weeks of this internship phase.
