Day 22 : School Internship Phase 2

On December 31, 2024, I had a packed day, teaching four classes across different grade levels. The first class of the day was for 9A, where I introduced the topic of the volume of rectangular prisms and cubes. The students were highly engaged and grasped the concept exceptionally well. I made use of practical examples and visual aids to illustrate the topic, which helped in making the lesson more relatable and effective. The students participated actively, solving problems confidently. Their enthusiasm and quick understanding of the topic made it an excellent session. It was fulfilling to see their progress and interest in the subject.
For 8A and 8C, I taught the topic of the area of a parallelogram. Unfortunately, I noticed that many students had forgotten the basic concepts they had previously learned. This made it challenging to proceed with the lesson as planned. To address this, I had to revisit some fundamental ideas about geometry, including the relationship between base and height in a parallelogram. Although this took extra time, it was necessary to ensure that all students were on the same page. I also incorporated simple examples and activities to help them regain their understanding. By the end of the session, some students showed improvement, but I realized the importance of regular revision to reinforce these concepts.
The final class of the day was with 5A, where I decided to conduct a mini spelling bee tournament. This activity was designed to break the monotony of regular lessons and to develop their vocabulary and spelling skills in an engaging way. The students were divided into small groups and were given words of varying difficulty levels to spell. The competitive yet friendly atmosphere brought out their enthusiasm, and they actively participated in the game. The tournament not only helped enhance their language skills but also boosted their confidence and teamwork. It was heartening to see their excitement and determination to perform well.
Overall, the day was a mix of successes and challenges. While the 9A session was highly rewarding, the 8A and 8C classes highlighted the need for consistent reinforcement of foundational concepts. The 5A spelling bee was a delightful way to end the day, showcasing the importance of creative teaching methods in making learning enjoyable and impactful.
