"Kerala Piravi" is celebrated on November 1st to mark the formation of the Indian state of Kerala. On this day in 1956, the state was created by merging the Malayalam-speaking regions. The occasion is marked with cultural programs, parades, and a celebration of Kerala's rich heritage, art, and traditions.We the MATHEMATICS family of Govt College of Teacher Education Thycaud celebrated Keralapiravi on November 7 as a part of the weekly programme.The name of the programe was "വാഗഹി". The programme was conducted in collaboration with Hindi Association and Commerce Association.Laisa was the main anchor of the programme.The programme started with prayear by Rajika J R .After that there were a presentation on Kerala Tribal culture by Reeshma L S. Kerala, a picturesque state in southern India, is known for its diverse cultural tapestry and rich heritage. One of the most distinctive aspects of Kerala's cultural landscape is its vibrant tapestry of tribes or indigenous communities that have inhabited the region for centuries.These tribes, often referred to as Adivasis, have a unique way of life and contribute significantly to the state's cultural mosaic.The tribes of Kerala can be classified into several groups, each with its distinct traditions, languages, and customs. Prominent among these are the Paniyas, Kurumbas, Irulas, and Kattunayakans. They are primarily concentrated in the hilly and forested regions of the Western Ghats. These tribes have a deep connection with nature and depend on the forests for their livelihood, often practicing shifting agriculture and collecting forest produce.The tribes of Kerala have a rich oral tradition, with their folklore, myths, and songs preserving their cultural heritage. They are known for their unique art forms, including traditional dances like Theyyam and various forms of handicrafts. Moreover, their knowledge of medicinal plants and traditional healing practices has been invaluable to modern medicine.Over the years, these tribes have faced various challenges, such as land encroachments, displacement, and socio-economic disparities. Efforts are being made to promote and preserve these art forms, ensuring that they continue to thrive and be appreciated by a wider audience.Tribes like the Muthuvans and Kanikars are skilled in crafting pottery and various handicrafts. Their creations often feature intricate designs and patterns inspired by nature. These artifacts serve both utilitarian and decorative purposes.Several tribal communities in Kerala, like the Warli and Malayarayan, are known for their traditional mural and wall paintings. These paintings often depict scenes from nature, daily life, and myths. The use of natural colors and simple yet profound artistic expressions make these paintings stand out."Ayyappan Vilakku," are crafted by the tribes, especially the Muthuvan and Malayarayan communities. These lamps are adorned with symbols and motifs that have religious significance. The making of Ayyappan Vilakku is not only an art form but also a religious tradition for these tribes.The Kadar tribe is one of the most well-known indigenous tribes in Kerala and is primarily found in the districts of Idukki and Wayanad.The Kurichyar tribe mainly resides in the Wayanad district of Kerala. They are known for their distinct culture and traditions.The Muthuvan tribe primarily inhabits the Idukki district of Kerala. They are known for their expertise in forest-related activities.The Paniya tribe is predominantly found in Wayanad district. They are known for their traditional knowledge of herbal medicine.The Urali tribe resides in the Thrissur and Palakkad districts of Kerala. They are known for their knowledge of forest resources.The Cholanaikkan tribe is mainly found in Wayanad and Malappuram districts. They are known for their hunting and gathering skills. The Kurumans are spread across various districts in Kerala, including Wayanad, Malappuram, and Palakkad. They have a unique cultural identity.The Malayarayan tribe primarily resides in the Wayanad district of Kerala. The Paliyan tribe The Mannan tribe is mainly concentrated in the Idukki district. They have a rich tradition of agriculture and forest-related activities.is predominantly found in the Idukki and Theni districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. They are known for their hunting and gathering lifestyle. The Malavettuvar tribe is found in the Palakkad district of Kerala. They have a unique cultural heritage and traditional knowledge.The Arandan tribe is primarily located in the Thrissur and Palakkad districts. They have a strong connection to the forest and nature.The Kattunaickan tribe resides in the Wayanad district. They are known for their intimate relationship with the forests and wildlife.The Kuruba tribe is found in various districts of Kerala, including Wayanad and Palakkad. They are known for their agricultural practices.The Hill Pulaya tribe is mainly found in the Idukki district. They have their own distinct culture and traditions.After the presentation there were a song about Kerala culture by Sreelekshmi B.Then there were " Nadanpatt " performance by us including songs of Thuyilunarth patt , Bhagavati Patt and songs by the legend Kalabhavan Mani . Then we conduct competitions like oru nimisham Kavita , Malayalam tongue twister , Kusruthi chodhyam . Then Santya , Arya and Rosh kumar sir shared there experience and opinion about the programme. then vote of thanks was given by Achanya .
