DAY 7 : SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PHASSE 1

On August 6, 2024, Day 7 of my school internship phase 1, I had the unique opportunity to witness a captivating assembly at the school. The assembly marked the formation of the Violet House, a special occasion filled with various cultural and educational activities that showcased the diverse talents and knowledge of the students. The event began with the students singing Rabindranath Tagore's "Geethanjali" in multiple languages, including English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi. This multilingual rendition was a beautiful tribute to Tagore's literary genius and the rich cultural heritage of India. It was fascinating to see the students' ability to switch between languages so effortlessly, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the school community. The assembly also included a fascinating science experiment demonstration. The students showcased a classic experiment involving the color change of a solution using sodium hydroxide and phenolphthalein.

This experiment, known for its dramatic visual effect, illustrates the concept of pH indicators and the chemical properties of acids and bases. The solution, initially colorless, turned pink when sodium hydroxide was added, indicating the presence of a base. This demonstration effectively engaged the students and served as an excellent practical lesson in chemistry, making complex concepts accessible and exciting. Another highlight of the assembly was a skit about humanity. The students performed a thoughtful and engaging drama that emphasized the importance of kindness, empathy, and compassion in our daily lives. The skit addressed various social issues and conveyed a powerful message about the need to treat others with respect and dignity. It was heartwarming to see the students convey such an important message through their performance, showcasing their understanding of social values and their ability to express them creatively. After the assembly, I had the opportunity to teach a class at 9C. The topic for the day was the properties of triangle division using parallel lines. This mathematical concept involves understanding how a triangle can be divided into smaller triangles with proportional sides by drawing parallel lines.
The lesson required explaining the geometric principles and demonstrating how these lines affect the angles and sides of the triangles formed. During the class, I realized the importance of clear and effective communication, especially when explaining complex mathematical concepts. I used the blackboard to illustrate the properties and relationships between the triangles, but I noticed that my blackboard skills needed improvement. Writing neatly and organizing information clearly on the board are crucial for helping students follow along and understand the material. I found myself struggling to maintain a consistent flow of information, often erasing and rewriting, which disrupted the lesson's pace. Improving my blackboard skills is something I plan to focus on in the coming days. This includes practicing writing clearly and legibly, organizing information in a logical sequence, and ensuring that all students can see and understand the diagrams and explanations. I also aim to integrate more visual aids and interactive elements into my lessons, such as using PowerPoint presentations or visualizers, to complement the blackboard and enhance the learning experience. Reflecting on the day's experiences, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. The assembly was a reminder of the importance of holistic education, where students are encouraged to explore and express their talents in various fields. The diverse activities, from singing and science experiments to skits, provided a well-rounded platform for students to develop their skills and confidence. The event also highlighted the school's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where students can thrive. In my role as an intern, I learned valuable lessons about teaching and classroom management. The importance of preparation, clear communication, and engaging students in the learning process cannot be overstated. I realized that every class is an opportunity to learn and grow as an educator, and I am committed to continuously improving my teaching methods and strategies. In conclusion, Day 7 of my school internship was a memorable and enriching experience. The assembly was a celebration of talent and diversity, and my time in the classroom was an opportunity to reflect on my teaching practices and areas for improvement. As I continue this journey, I am excited to learn more and contribute positively to the students' educational experiences.
