DAY 8 : SCHOOL INTERSHIP PHASE 1

On August 7, 2024, my internship experience at the school proved to be both challenging and rewarding. My day was packed with a variety of activities, including teaching two classes, supervising the school mathematics fair, and conducting a conscientisation program. The first class of the day was with 9C, where I tackled problems based on triangle division using parallel lines. This topic, which lies at the intersection of geometry and algebra, required students to apply their understanding of parallel lines and triangle properties to solve complex problems. Despite my meticulous preparation and enthusiasm, the class was able to complete only one problem during the allotted time. The complexity of the topic meant that students needed more time to fully grasp the underlying concepts and methods.
This session taught me a significant lesson about the importance of pacing and breaking down complex problems into more digestible parts for better comprehension.
Although only one problem was solved, it was essential to ensure that the students understood the process thoroughly rather than rushing through multiple problems. Following this, I moved on to 8A, where I had planned an innovative lesson on the chapter "Equations." The objective was to make learning equations engaging and enjoyable for the students. To achieve this, I devised a creative activity called "treasure hunt in x-land." In this activity, students solved problems based on unknowns, which allowed them to explore equations in a fun and interactive manner. The response from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Most of them found the activity highly engaging and were able to complete the problems with ease. This reinforced my belief in the power of creative teaching methods. The treasure hunt not only made learning enjoyable but also provided the students with a deeper understanding of equations through practical application. It was gratifying to see the students so enthusiastic and actively participating in the lesson. This experience highlighted the significant advantage of incorporating creative thinking into teaching methodologies. In addition to teaching, I also had the responsibility of being an invigilator for the school mathematics fair. This event was a crucial part of the school’s academic calendar, aimed at promoting mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. As an invigilator, I ensured that the event ran smoothly and that students adhered to the rules and guidelines. The mathematics fair showcased a wide range of projects, each demonstrating the students’ understanding of various mathematical concepts. It was inspiring to see the creativity and ingenuity displayed by the students in their projects. The fair not only provided a platform for students to exhibit their skills but also fostered a sense of healthy competition and camaraderie among them. In the afternoon, I conducted a conscientisation program for class 8G on the topic of national integration. This program was designed to educate students about the importance of unity and diversity in building a strong and cohesive nation. The session began with a discussion on the definition and history of national integration, followed by an exploration of its key features. I emphasized the concept of “unity in diversity,” highlighting how India’s diverse cultures, languages, and religions contribute to its strength and resilience. The students were encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and share their thoughts on what national integration means to them. This interactive approach helped in making the session more engaging and relatable for the students. To further reinforce the importance of national integration, I included an activity where the students wrote about their feelings towards India. This exercise allowed them to express their thoughts and emotions, fostering a sense of patriotism and pride in their country. The responses were heartfelt and varied, reflecting the students’ diverse backgrounds and perspectives. It was heartening to see their enthusiasm and commitment to the idea of a united India. The conscientisation program not only educated the students about national integration but also inspired them to contribute positively towards building a harmonious and inclusive society. Overall, August 7, 2024, was a day of significant learning and growth for me as an intern. Each activity, from teaching and invigilating to conducting the conscientisation program, provided unique insights and experiences. The challenges faced during the 9C class on triangle division using parallel lines underscored the importance of effective teaching strategies and classroom management. The success of the innovative lesson in 8A demonstrated the power of creative thinking in enhancing student engagement and understanding. The mathematics fair highlighted the importance of fostering a love for learning and encouraging students to think critically and creatively. The conscientisation program on national integration reinforced the value of unity and diversity, both in the classroom and in the broader context of nation-building. This day’s experiences have strengthened my resolve to continue improving my teaching methods and to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment for my students. As I reflect on the day, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the students’ academic and personal growth. It is immensely rewarding to see the positive impact of my efforts on the students, and I am motivated to keep striving for excellence in my teaching practice.
